Mini-Cart Design & In-Cart Feature Development

UX Design · UI Design · Feature Design · Cart & Checkout · Ecommerce · Shopify

Tuckernuck has built one of the most loyal customer bases in American fashion. As they grew, adding a mini-cart became a priority. I designed a sophisticated, multi-state system built to keep shoppers informed and in
the flow without ever disrupting the purchase path.

The Problem

Tuckernuck's site had grown, but the cart experience hadn't kept pace. Shoppers had no way to review, adjust, or discover without navigating away from where they were. A mini-cart was the missing piece.

My Role

I came onto the project after the initial wireframe stage and took full ownership of the visual and UI design, working closely with the Tuckernuck team at every stage.

I owned the design direction, client presentations, and every cart state from default through gift wrap, save for later, and the Pairs Well With Quick Add, a net new feature designed to drive discovery without leaving the cart.

Key Design Decisions

Introducing Pairs Well With & Quick Add

Tuckernuck wanted a way to bring complementary products into the cart without disrupting the purchase path. With no wires to start from for this section, I conceived and designed the full interaction, a Quick Add feature embedded directly in the mini-cart that opens a drawer for product details and returns the shopper to their cart on add.

Reconsidering Gifting in Cart

Gifting is a core part of the Tuckernuck experience, and the UI needed to reflect that. I designed a dedicated gifting drawer where every detail was intentionally considered, from full wrap pattern imagery to message input, so shoppers could feel their personal choice before the package arrived.

Quick View opens a drawer with product details (including size, color, and additional imagery), add to bag returns the shopper to their cart.
